Nagtegaal, Joris. ‘Solarisation in Historical Manganese-Containing Glass: Investigating UV Radiation Effects and Conservation Implications’. MSc Thesis, University of Amsterdam, 2025.
MSc thesis investigating solarisation, a colour change in glass, containing manganese as a decolourant, caused by UV radiation. The study aimed to determine the parameters of solarisation by exposing three glass objects to various UV sources and measuring colour changes, to prevent solarisation in museum and non-museum environments. Results showed that solarisation susceptibility varied with UV type and the minor elements in the glass composition, particularly arsenic and chlorine.
